Overview
The wall-mounted cleanroom pass through hatch also known as a transfer hatch, pass through box, pass through chamber, pass through cabinet, or pass thru from PBSC is available in various material constructions including:
- Powder coated steel
- Polished stainless steel
- Phenolic resin
This wall mounted pass through chamber includes PBSC’s reliable interlock system aiding the reduction of cross-contamination and pressure loss when passing equipment between different classification areas. The dynamic pass box plays a vital role in many different cleanrooms or controlled environments.
This product is commonly used in cleanroom facilities as it offers a clean and attractive opening that has a great visual impact.
The cleanroom technology involved within this pass through box involves electrically controlled interlocks, which are available to ensure hatch air is given time to recover before the opposite door is in use, easing the quick transfer of goods between different-grade rooms. This mechanism is mounted between the two skins of the hatch to reduce the risk of tamper and is available as an electro-mechanical system to provide timed interlocks for the air purge cycle, UV light cycles, etc…
With minimal recesses and fixings, allowing easy cleaning and maintenance to this long-lasting, robust fully frameless glass door leaf which provides maximum visibility and natural light.
PBSC has a range of hatches and options, including:
- Trolley Pass Through Chamber – Developed to allow wheeled trolleys to pass between different grade rooms, fixed directly to the finished flooring facilitating an uninterrupted floor through the hatch.
- Fire Pass Through Chamber – PBSC offers a certified fire-rated pass-through option that can be mounted on either a wall or floor hatch configuration.
- High Containment Barrier Pass Through Chamber – PBSCs high containment pass through chamber provides trustworthy interlock door transfer routes, designed for both rigorously controlled BSL4 laboratory facilities and non-containment environments.

INTRODUCING THE NEW DESIGN
The new glass door design focuses on modernizing the hatch’s appearance, aligning it with contemporary cleanroom aesthetics.
The design gives a cleanroom a more polished and professional look and a high-quality finish. Compliance and safety ensure that the door maintains the required levels of contamination control and safety.
Overall this update represents PBSC and its high standing within cleanroom and containment-controlled environments.
Please note – the new design image is within the features list.
This product is made from long-lasting, sleek, and non-absorbent materials. You can select from a range of options:
Polished stainless steel (standard offering) – The hatch shell is made of double skin, satin-polished stainless steel. All welds will be ground off and polished to match, with internal folded corners.
Phenolic resin – The hatch shell is made of 16mm (5/8″) thick, matte white, phenolic resin (High-Pressure Laminate HPL) without any visible fixings. The internal junctions are neatly finished with a silicone fillet, and all external edges are raised to form a smooth and easily cleanable unit.
Powder-coated steel – The hatch is made of a powder-coated zintec outer shell and a stainless steel inner shell with ground-off welds and polished internal corners.
Available with glass or solid doors to suit privacy requirements, compatible with all wall types and constructions.
Available with internal glass or stainless steel support shelves with stainless steel frames.
The PBSC hatch is equipped with a special mechanical interlocking door system. This system ensures that both doors cannot be opened at the same time. This is done to give the hatch’s air some time to recover before the other door can be opened. The interlock mechanism is placed between the two skins of the hatch to reduce the risk of tampering.
Additionally, it is available as an electro-mechanical system that provides timed interlocks for air purge and UV light cycles.
This design helps prevent contamination by minimizing direct airflow and maintaining room pressure during transfers.
Interlocking mechanisms ensure that one door remains closed while the other is open, maintaining the integrity of each environment and facilitating a quick transfer of goods between different grades of rooms.
PBSC’s pass through hatches are designed to minimize the flow of air between the connected environments during material transfer. After use, the hatch air is cleaned to either the filtered air level of the supply or the higher classification room.
Various sizes and configurations of hatches are available to meet specific application requirements, including single or double-door options and right-angle designs.
PBSC’s hatches are designed for easy cleaning and maintenance, making it simple to transfer products, equipment, or paperwork between sterile/clean areas and non-sterile/dirty areas.
After installing the product on-site, PBSC provides a comprehensive after-sales support service, which includes a planned preventative maintenance program, servicing, and spare parts.
