Overview
PBSC’s trolley hatch also known as a pass through chamber, or cleanroom transfer hatch is one of the best on the market and has been engineered for the secure and efficient transfer of trolleys and large equipment between different cleanrooms and controlled environments, available in various material constructions that are durable, robust, and refined, giving ease of cleaning and maintenance.
The trolley pass box fixes directly to the finished flooring, providing a clean and uninterrupted floor through the hatch with a larger opening to accommodate trolleys, carts, or large equipment.
Ideal for use in cleanrooms, laboratories, and hospitals, the trolley pass through hatch ensures safe and efficient movement of large items without compromising environmental integrity.
A dependable interlock system is mounted between the two skins of the trolley hatch body to reduce the risk of tampering, helping to maintain the reduction of pressure loss and cross-contamination when products pass between lower and higher classification zones. This ensures that the cleanroom transfer box air has time to recover before the opposite door is opened. Available as an electro-mechanical system, it provides timed interlocks for air purge and UV light cycles, among other features.
The active pass-through hatch air is “cleaned” following use to either the filtered air level of the supply of the higher classification room, thus aiding the risk of lower classification air entering the higher classification room.
Facilitating easy cleaning and maximizing visibility with a completely frameless glass door leaf, this feature allows natural light to pass through the hatch without any visible fixings or recesses.
Benefits:
- Versatility: Suitable for a wide range of applications and can be customized to meet specific requirements.
- Safety: Maintains the integrity of the controlled environment, protecting both the products and the personnel.
- Contamination Control: Ensures that large items can be transferred without introducing contaminants.
- Enhanced Workflow: Streamlines the transfer process, improving efficiency and productivity.
PBSC hatches are available with various options and features, including:

Innovation. Design. Quality
Interlocking mechanisms ensure that one door remains closed while the other is open, maintaining the integrity of each environment and facilitating the quick transfer of goods between different grades of rooms. This system upholds contamination control and operational efficiency.
PBSC’s pass-through hatches are equipped with a unique mechanical interlocking door system as standard. This design prevents both doors from being opened at the same time, ensuring that the air within the hatch has sufficient time to recover before the other door can be opened. By maintaining contamination control, the interlock mechanism enhances the security of the hatch. It is securely mounted between the two skins of the hatch to minimize the risk of tampering.
Additionally, PBSC’s pass-through hatches come with an electromechanical system, providing timed interlocks for air purging, UV light cycles, and other custom requirements, ensuring comprehensive contamination control and adaptability to various operational needs.
Preventing direct airflow, minimizing contamination risk, and maintaining room pressure during the transfer process.
Each hatch comes in various sizes and configurations to meet specific application needs, including single or double door options and right-angle designs, ensuring adaptability to different operational environments.
PBSC’s pass-through hatches are designed to reduce airflow between connected areas when materials are transferred, in order to maintain optimal contamination control. After use, the air inside the hatch is filtered to match the level of filtered air in the supply or the higher classification room, ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness and safety.
PBSC’s hatches are made from durable, smooth, non-porous materials and come in a variety of finishes:
- Polished Stainless Steel (standard offering): The hatch shell features satin polished stainless steel with double skin construction. All welds are ground off and polished to match the internal folded corners.
- Phenolic Resin: Constructed from 16mm (5/8”) thick, matt white phenolic resin (High Pressure Laminate HPL) with no visible fixings. Internal junctions are finished with a neat silicone fillet, and all external edges are raised to form a smooth, easily cleaned unit.
- Powder-Coated Steel: The outer shell is made from powder-coated zintec, while the inner shell of the double skin construction is stainless steel. All welds are ground off and polished to match the internal folded corners.
These hatches are compatible with all types of walls and construction and are available with glass or solid doors to meet privacy requirements. Internal support shelves in either glass or stainless steel and stainless steel support frames are also available.
The advanced design of PBSC’s hatches is sturdy, allowing for easy cleaning and maintenance. These hatches are perfect for transferring products, equipment, or paperwork between sterile/clean areas and non-sterile/dirty areas, ensuring contamination control and operational efficiency.
Following on-site installation, PBSC offers a Planned Preventative Maintenance and Servicing Plan with an extensive after-sales support service, including planned preventative maintenance programs, servicing, and spare parts.
